Oh Canada!
So, I'm in Tofino for the very first time. Beautiful place and all I keep thinking about is what mystery could I write here? A boat goes out and doesn't come back? Boat goes out but not everyone comes back? Would the Canadian Mounties get involved or do these little towns have their own police force? The mind of a writer never rests. We're a strange fraternity. What story do you see in this picture?

Good questions, Bob. I love tales of the sea. My first novel, SEVEN DAYS OF RAIN, begins like this:
Not everyone returns home from the sea. Sometimes fortunate survivors tell the heroic tale of a crewman’s final hours. Sometimes the sea takes all hands leaving loved ones to forever imagine their fate.
Every marina I've been to there have been some very unique and rich characters working there.
In the novel I just finished I have a scene that takes place at a marina but I think the woods and the tree-covered mountain in the background hold the most mystery in this photo.
What a gorgeous place to relax and write! The mountains in the background make me think: Was it an accident or was he pushed?
It looks like somewhere in Italy instead of Canada. I love it when writers visit new locales and set their novels there. It makes me feel like visiting. If you set a novel in Tofino, I'm sure to add it to my bucket list of travel sites.

I see he shabby boat house and think of a missing person cold case.
I live on Vancouver Island and can tell you that there is no local police force, just the RCMP. But there is the coast guard. Drug running, smuggling illegal immigrants. Hey! Why an I giving you these ideas?
Love it! I see modern-day Odysseus returned from the seas, disguised so his wife and her suitors no longer recognize him, anticipating turning the town on its head as he reinserts himself into local small town politics and hides the fact that all his crew died on his journey. Whether he'll kill his wife, or save her, is not exactly clear. A storm is abrewing....
